About This Role

The Director of Children & Youth is directly responsible for leading all ministries for children (Birth-5th Grade) and youth (Grades 6-12) at Trinity United Methodist Church.  This position leads a team of volunteers to create a unified discipleship pathway from birth through graduation.

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks - Children

Oversee all ministry activities for children (ages birth–5th grade), including Sunday mornings and special events.

Teaching the children’s moment in worship services.

Choose and lead the preparation of age-appropriate curriculum for each age level.

Create programming and engaging activities quarterly that facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth.

Recruit, train, and schedule teams of children’s ministry volunteers.

Plan, schedule, and oversee special events such as Spring Fling (Easter Egg Hunt), VBS, Trunk or Treat (Fall Festival) & Christmas Program.

Quarterly Children’s event/outing

Implement Safe Sanctuaries Policies & Procedures

Manage check-in procedures on Sundays.

Any other reasonable duties asked by the Senior Pastor

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks - Youth

Oversee all ministry activities for youth (6th grade through 12th grade), including Sunday evenings and special events (i.e. Camp Meeting).

Choose and lead the preparation of age-appropriate curriculum for mixed age level.

Create programming and engaging activities quarterly that facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth.

Recruit, train, and schedule youth ministry volunteers.

Plan, schedule, and oversee special events for youth (camps and trips)

Establish trust and rapport within the youth of the church.

Create ways for the youth to serve on Sunday mornings

Your Team

Reports to the Senior Pastor.

Coordinates with the Church Administrator for scheduling and publicity.

The Children & Youth Director is part of the church leadership; therefore, would need to schedule a monthly meeting with Senior pastor to review recent activity and forecast three months ahead.

Your Schedule

This is a part-time, salaried position approximately 20 hours a week. 

9:45 am – 12:15 pm (Sunday School, Children’s moment, and Children’s Church) and 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm (Youth Group)

Weekly planning and preparation for Sunday (days & hours TBD)

Special weekday occasions include, but are not limited to, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day

Most weeks will not require 20 hours of work; weeks like Vacation Bible School and Camp Meeting will require additional hours.

Plan and follow through with a quarterly activity for children (i.e. hike/picnic, Stone Mtn., zoo, etc.)

Additional Information

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Starting Compensation: $24,000 per year (paid monthly on 1st of month)

Paid Time Off: Four Sundays per calendar year (one Sunday per quarter); one week of vacation per calendar year

Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in ministry leadership and volunteer coordination

Communication: Possess strong communication, organization and leadership skill; proficient with digital tools and ministry software
